Talking to a farmer in Northern Ghana at his dry paddy field, August 2007.
My main interests in study and research are in exploring/understanding socioeconomic and institutional aspects of natural resources management and utilisation, particularly in the developing countries. The focus of my research is usually in what has come to be known as poverty-livelihoods-environment nexus, with studies geared towards understanding the impacts of socioeconomic and institutional factors on the access to and distribution of benefits from the natural resources, and how they affect the poverty and livelihoods of the individuals and households. Understanding the influence of the socioeconomic and institutional arrangements on the behaviour of the individuals and households managing and utilising the resources for their livelihoods, and understanding whether (and how) their behaviour impacts on the environment is the key focus of my research. The goal is to come up with sustainable policy recommendations to reduce/alleviate poverty, enhance livelihoods of the poor, at the same time with minimal or no impact on the environment.
