You have reached Mahesh Poudyal's personal webspace. I am currently a Research Associate at the Centre for Ecology Law and Policy (CELP) in Environment Department at the University of York, UK. Prior to my appointment, I was a PhD student/researcher at York (2005-2009) - based jointly in Environment and Politics Departments. I have a Masters degree from Simon Fraser University in Canada in Resources Management, and a BSc in Environment, Economics and Ecology from the University of York, UK.

My PhD research focussed on the tree tenure issues in agroforestry parklands in West Africa, with a case study from Northern Ghana. My research interests are in socioeconomic aspects of natural resources management and use, especially on the institutional arrangements and their impacts on the access to and the distribution of benefits from the resources. The focus of my work is usually on the poverty-livelihoods-environment nexus. In the past, I've been involved in studies looking at leasehold forestry (Nepal), rhino conservation and park-people conflicts (Nepal). In my current position, I am involved in a EU sixth framework project on 'sustainable management of shea in Sudano-Sahelian zone'.
